Is HamFilm free?
Yes. Making a room, inviting people, watching in sync, chat, voice and screen sharing all work without paying and without an account.
Do I need to install anything, or sign up?
No. HamFilm runs in your browser. Make a room, send the link and press play. You only need to sign in for account features, such as keeping a room permanently.
How many people fit in one room?
HamFilm sets no hard limit. We have tested rooms of up to about 15 people. File sharing and screen sharing send one person's upload to everyone else, so a large room depends on the sharer's connection.
Does HamFilm work on a phone?
Yes, for watching, chat and voice. Screen sharing does not work on phones. No mobile browser on Android or iOS lets a web page capture the screen.
Does Netflix or another streaming service work in HamFilm?
Not through screen sharing. Streaming services protect their video, and the browser shows a protected tab as a black rectangle to everyone else. HamFilm has no way around this browser rule. Any video you have as a file or a direct link plays fine.
Why is there no sound when I share my screen?
Screen audio needs Chrome or Edge. Share a tab or your whole desktop, not a single window.
Is there a link format for opening a room with a video already loaded?
Yes. Open https://hamfilm.net/create?video=THE_VIDEO_URL and HamFilm creates a room with the video ready to play.
Is HamFilm traffic half-price in Iran?
Yes. HamFilm runs on servers inside Iran, and Iranian internet providers count HamFilm traffic at half price (nim-baha, also written nimbaha). If you use 4 GB, your data plan loses 2 GB. YouTube videos and links from foreign sites stream straight from those sites and use their normal traffic.
